March 2024 saw some significant changes in the packaging landscape, particularly in Western Australia with additional Single Use Plastic Bans coming into place across the state.
This latest round of bans included:
- Takeaway Coffee Cups
- Hot & Cold Cup Lids
- Unlidded plastic trays for takeaway food
With these changes now being enforced, and further bans coming into play across many states through 2024, now is the time to act says Star Group’s Head of Packaging Innovation & Sustainability, Nicholas Payne:
“With the states taking the lead on sustainability in packaging, there are a myriad of competing programs and timelines for phasing out single use plastic around Australia which can be confusing for businesses operating across the country. The only way to protect your business from these changes, and prepare yourself for the upcoming action from the Federal Government post 2025, is to systematically review your range of packaging put measure in place early to phase out problematic plastics”
At Star Group, we can work with you to complete an audit of your entire packaging portfolio, and work with you to act early to transition away from products that are impacted by both the upcoming state based bans, as well as preparing for the new Federal Government to be announced through 2024.
